The arrival of the long-awaited James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, has been pushed back until 27 May 2026.

Initially scheduled for a 27 March release, the title is now set to arrive approximately a couple of months after its initial date.

A Much-Needed Return for 007

This project signifies the inaugural video game to feature the iconic British spy since 2012's 007 Legends, ending a lengthy hiatus for the character in the gaming world.

"The game is entirely complete from the first mission to the last," explained studio IO Interactive. "But, we are utilizing this further window to add more refinement and ensure it lives up to the demanding benchmarks of our players."

Production Details and Narrative Components

The game is being developed in partnership with Delphi Interactive, a studio also responsible for another upcoming title.

Patrick Gibson, recognized from Dexter: Original Sin, will star as a 26-year-old James Bond in what is touted as a new look at the early days.

The narrative will follow Bond as he gets enlisted into MI6 and earns his coveted 00 status, offering a self-contained tale separate from the films or books.

Star-Studded Cast and Mechanics Reveals

Boosting the celebrity appeal, artist Lenny Kravitz was announced as the project's primary antagonist.

Released teaser footage have highlighted some similarities with IO Interactive's popular Hitman franchise, while also highlighting the classic gadgets and cinematic set pieces inherent to Bond.

That said, a portion of the reaction on these trailers expressed concerns about graphical fidelity, pointing out stuttering and the use of motion blur.

A Major Project

IO Interactive has called 007 First Light its "most ambitious project to date."

"We believe this positions 007 First Light up for enduring popularity," the studio stated. "We are grateful for the patience and steadfast backing we've received."
