Larry Summers Resigns from AI Company's Directors
One-time economic leader Lawrence Summers is exiting the governing body at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a series of emails between him and deceased financier the disgraced billionaire became public.
Summers stated in a release that he was "grateful for the opportunity to have participated, optimistic about the promise of the enterprise, and look forward following their advancement".

Message Exchange
The freshly disclosed communications revealed that Summers communicated with Epstein until the 24 hours preceding his 2019 arrest for suspected trafficking of young people.
In additional comments, the AI firm expressed it accepted Summers' determination to step down.
"We appreciate his many contributions and the insight he brought to the governing body," the organization stated.
Political Context
This news comes after both chambers of the US legislature agreed on recently to endorse a legislation that would compel the Department of Justice to release its records on Jeffrey Epstein.
The legislation will subsequently move to the office of US President Donald Trump for approval. He has said he intends to approve the measure, after reversing his view on the matter following pressure from his supporters.
Correspondence Findings
A collection of Epstein-connected correspondence released by the House Oversight Committee days ago mentioned numerous high-profile figures in the Epstein's past associates, without suggesting any legal wrongdoing by those individuals.
The communications showed that Summers and Epstein dined together frequently, with Epstein often seeking to introduce Summers to prominent international personalities.
Individual Statement
After the correspondence were shared with the public, the former official expressed he assumed "complete accountability for my poor judgment to continue communicating with Jeffrey Epstein".
He continued that he wanted "to reestablish trust and mend connections with the persons most important to me".
Professional History
The professor occupied leadership roles under party leaders; acting as Treasury chief under the former president, and as director of the White House economic team under the former leader.
He led the university from five years and is still a faculty member there. When declaring his withdrawal from public commitments previously on this week, he indicated he would persist with his educational duties.
Additional Consequences
Following the economist's statement on earlier this week, the policy organization, a left-leaning policy institute in DC where Summers was a prominent member, announced that Summers was no longer affiliated with the institution.
The former official joined the directorate of OpenAI, which develops the AI chatbot, in the previous year - following a unsuccessful effort to replace its chief executive the company leader.
