Specialists Identify Kremlin Intimidation Campaign Against Cruise Missile Deployment

Moscow is executing a strategic manipulation operation of threats to deter the United States from providing long-range missiles to Ukrainian forces, as reported by military analysts. A senior official stated: “We understand these missiles very well, their flight patterns, methods to intercept them, we encountered them in the Syrian conflict, so there is nothing new. Those delivering them and those who use them will encounter difficulties … We will identify methods to damage those who create problems for us.”

Ukraine's Counteroffensive Developments

Ukraine's military were causing significant casualties in a military operation in eastern Ukraine, the war's main theatre, Ukraine's leader reported on midweek. Zelenskyy's assessment, derived from a communication with his chief of defense, contrasted with the Russian president's remarks to high-ranking military personnel a prior day in which he claimed Russian troops possessed the strategic initiative in throughout the battle lines.

Based on evaluation covering early October, military analysts said Russia was experiencing substantial casualties, particularly from Ukrainian drone attacks, in return for small operational progress. Kyiv's troops, Zelenskyy said, were “maintaining our defense along all other directions”, referring specifically to the Kupiansk area, a significantly ruined town in Ukraine's northeast under heavy Russian assaults for several months.

Area Developments

Local authorities in southern Ukraine of the Kherson oblast said Russian attacks on midweek resulted in three fatalities in and around the urban center of the oblast center. Local authorities of the Sumy oblast, on the northern frontier with the Russian Federation, said three fatalities occurred in Russian drone attacks in multiple locations. Ukraine's air force said it successfully countered the majority of Russian strike and decoy drones overnight into Wednesday.

A Russian attack substantially impacted one of Ukraine's thermal power plants, authorities said on midweek. Facility personnel were injured in the attack, as reported by industry sources. Sources gave limited details, about the site's whereabouts, but Ukrainian authorities said Russia struck critical utilities in the Chernihiv region, the Kherson area and the Dnipropetrovsk area.

Public Consequences

In the north-eastern Sumy town of the Shostka area, hit hard by the military campaign against the power supply, authorities have created emergency spaces where residents may find shelter, drink hot tea, maintain communication capability and receive psychological support, based on information from administrative leader.

International Reactions

Ukraine's ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on midweek encouraged European allies to step up purchases of American military equipment for Kyiv. “It's not that we prioritize United States armaments rather than European or other international equipment – the reality is that we are requesting the US for weapons which EU members are unable to supply,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.

German federal police will shortly receive authorization to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles, interior minister declared on midweek, following multiple unmanned aircraft incidents believed to be Moscow's attempts to spy and intimidate. Unveiling a draft law, the official said law enforcement would receive permission “to employ state-of-the-art technical action against drone threats, for example with electromagnetic pulses, electronic interference, GPS interference, but also with kinetic methods”.

Regional Protection Issues

European Commission President said on midweek that the European Union should strengthen its security measures to counter complex threat operations following air incursions, computer network operations and submarine infrastructure disruption. “This doesn't represent isolated incidents. This represents a systematic and intensifying operation,” the official said in a speech to the European parliament. “A couple of events are isolated incidents, but multiple, repeated, numerous – this is a planned and specific grey zone campaign against EU nations, and European countries should answer.”

Refugee Situation

The Switzerland's administration has continued its temporary shelter offered to displaced Ukrainians to at least 4 March 2027. Humanitarian status, which permits refugees to leave the country as well as be employed in Switzerland, is generally limited to one year but can be extended. “The ruling demonstrates the ongoing dangerous conditions and ongoing military actions across significant Ukrainian territory,” said a Swiss government statement. “Regardless of international peace efforts, a lasting stabilisation that would enable safe return is not expected in the medium term.”
