The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Displeasure Regarding Sizing Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Response
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: earlier, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
